A MUST READ!!!
Let’s talk
about something real. Global warming. It’s all over us. It’s in the news
everyday. We are actually experiencing its effect now. Three months ago, I
watched a documentary film by the US Vice president Al Gore entitled
“An Inconvenient Truth about Global Warming.” You can rent it at VideoCity. I
encouraged you to watch it because it is really informative and you’ll be more
aware of what is really happening to the world. It also explains there why we
are experiencing drastic climatic changes. Don’t worry, it’s an award-winning
piece so I’m sure, you won’t be bored to view it.
One of my
undergraduate seminar was entitled “Household Solid Waste Reduction.” And to
sum it up, there are three points I remembered about it:
- Buy in bulk. Really, I encourage you to buy
in bulk rather than in retail. For example, buying your favorite shampoo.
Though we would think it’s cheaper to buy in sachet but the waste you
produces costs much to the environment. One sachet of shampoo contains 5mL
of it while a bottle of shampoo has 100 mL. So that’s about 20 sachets
compared to one bottle. I’m guilty of it sometimes. But let’s make an
effort to reduce our waste.
- Reuse and Recycle. One good example would be
using a handkerchief instead of tissue paper (unless may sipon ka, d ba?)
At least yung hanky, nalalabhan. Pwedeng gamitin ulit. Pero yung tissue
paper, itatapon na lng basta after we use it. Another source of waste. Also,
we can use our old hand-outs as scratch papers to solve assignments or
make drafts for our reaction papers. After the end of every semester, we
can sell our hand-outs or scratch papers sa junk shop. Kumita na tayo,
nakatulong pa!
- As much as possible, avoid
using plastics. If we could refrain ourselves from using plastics, the better. Plastics
take longer years before they decompose. So, they would just add up to our
garbage sites every time we use them. One practical thing to do is to eat
"dine in". When we take out foods, we use stryo and plastics. Wow, imagine
the waste! Consider the amount of plastics we use everyday when we buy stuffs. Dapat magdala na lang bayong (hehehe).
Compared to the greatness of the global warming per se, I
used to think that I can do nothing to help. But just as one person at a time
in our ministry, so is one person at a time in informing the world about this
information. Sana,
let’s do our part in helping our world to be a better place to live in. Ajah!

info, you could check time magazine’s issue of “Survival Guide to Global
Warming.” April 9, 2007 issue. You could check it at time magazine’s website.

Ayaw
ko ng buhay “tulog-kaen-nood tv-internet-tulog.” Sabi ko nga sa sarili ko, “I
was made for something big and significant.” Naiinip man ako, sinisikap kung
ako’y missing in action. Namimiss ko ang magdisciple. Ang maging passionate. Pero
alam kung panandalian lamang ang lahat. “I’ll have my turn,” ika nga nila. At
excited ako dun kasi alam kung marami akong baong insights at mas prepared nako
ngayon. This time, I’m going to do it at
my best.
how much God is doing in my life.
out of love – love for God, love for my family, and love for my friends.” Naks!

| I couldn't help but share with you our "house pet." We only see it during the night. Before, it only stays at our house's balcony but recently, it has been wandering inside the house and we would always be surprised whenever it is already with us. Tonight, I found it near the light switch of our kitchen. Too bad I wasn't able to go to the kitchen to drink my milk before going to sleep because it might get too friendly and come near me. Oh no! Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome . . .
In our town, we call it "TOKO." It belonged to the family of lizards. Well, it is actually a big lizard. It is commonly known as gecko. It is very friendly actually because every time we have visitors, it never fails to show up. Actually, when my older sister brought her Korean friend at our home, our house pet was very "papansin." One could always hear it say, "toko! Toko!. That's why people call this creature as toko. =) | | |
